"The End" c'est LA chanson tourmentée, illuminée, et scandaleuse des Doors. C'est lors d'un petit séjour sous acide dans le désert près de L.A que Jim eut les visions du serpent, du temps, du bus bleu et du tueur au masque. Par la suite, pris dans un délire oedipien, il ajouta les couplets tendancieux qui fit le succès des Doors :"Father, I want to kill you / Mother, I want to fuck you"...Dans la version studio, le "fuck" est occulté...
